Problem / Opportunity Statement
With the latest push to leverage game scores for user engagement, we have a unique problem. We know scores from Producer and Pixellot broadcasts, but we don't have any data from RTMP broadcasts. These broadcasts take up 29% percent of our average yearly revenue for new subscribers, yet we currently have no way of scraping the scores from them. This opens an opportunity for both us and our broadcasters. Can we find a way to add production value to our broadcasts while also getting valuable score data?
Proposed Solution
What I propose is web overlays. A cross-platform, HTML-based scoreboard graphics package that is basically a visual copy of what producer currently uses. Couple this with a web interface on Console and our users can simply copy a URL, paste it into their streaming solution of their choice as a video input, and start streaming. Whenever they put in score data in Console, we send it two places - to the overlay service to generate graphics for them to use in the live stream and also to our live scoring pipeline.
Score overlays solve 2 problems; we give our broadcasters access to one of Producers key features (graphics) to increase their production value and we get score data in return. We also get to put our unique branding on a stream to maintain a more cohesive viewing experience for our users.
Unique Value Proposition
We're not the first company to do this, nor the last. The main difference this product offers over other solutions is that it would be baked into our console or HQ and free to our end users. It would not require any advanced customization and it would be automated based on the data stored in Unity. While this would not create a direct revenue stream for the company, it would create valuable score data.
